Ms Heloisa Carvalho
Head of ECE
Ms Heloisa Carvalho holds a bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy from the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil. She also studied Education Science in an international exchange programme at the Université Lumière Lyon 2, France. She holds a specialist degree in Special Education from Fafire College, Brazil and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Moreland University, USA.
Ms Carvalho has been an Early Childhood Education teacher for over 9 years. She has taught kindergarten children in an American School for 4 years and joined YWIES Guangzhou in 2015 as an ECE teacher. She is now the Head of ECE.
Ms Carvalho has taken classical singing lessons at Music Conservatories in both Brazil and France as one of her hobbies. She is also interested in learning languages, travelling and exercising.
Ms Maria Uiterwijk
Ms Maria Uiterwijk completed her Early Childhood Education qualifications in New Zealand. Over the past 16 years, she has worked in various early childhood education settings, including Montessori schools, New Zealand kindergartens and IB/PYP school in Italy.
Ms Uiterwijk is passionate about working with young children and creating a classroom environment that stimulates children’s curiosity and their natural desire to discover the world around them. She strongly believes that this happens best through a play-based curriculum with a holistic approach to learning and development.
Ms Uiterwijk sees herself as a life-long learner and continues to extend her professional knowledge through reading, research and engaging in professional development opportunities.
Before Ms Uiterwijk decided to become a teacher, she was a qualified nurse and practiced in this profession for 10 years in The Netherlands. Her experience in this field greatly benefits her work with young children and their families.
Ms Macu Yrureta
Ms Macu Yrureta was born and raised in Spain. After finishing her Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from Universidad de Extremadura, Spain, she went to the United States as an au pair to learn English and their culture. She was there for three years.
After teaching in Spain for a few years, she had the opportunity to teach Early Childhood Education in Washington DC and worked for DC Public Schools for almost 10 years. Meanwhile, she completed a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with bilingual specialization at the American College of Education.
In 2005, Ms Yrureta moved to Italy to work in a PYP/IB school for a year. Life brought her back to Spain where she worked for 3 years in an international school. This is her third year here at Yew Wah and she is enjoying her time in China and everything this ancient culture has to offer to her and her daughter.
Ms Tricia Mohamed
Ms Tricia Mohamed was born and educated in London, United Kingdom. After spending many years in financial administration she retrained and was qualified as a teacher in 2006. She has taught in a variety of primary schools across London, teaching children aged 3 to 10 years old. She started her career as a primary teacher, specializing in teaching information technology to 6 to 10 years olds. A little later, she gained an opportunity to teach in a nursery class. Since then she has specialized in Early Childhood Education. She is very passionate about ECE and has acted as a phase leader and educational standard moderator in this specific area of learning.
Ms Bonnie Yan
Ms Bonnie Yan is from Shaoguan, Guangdong. Her hobbies include reading and travelling, but her favourite one is working with children. She believes "being a ECE teacher requires talents, the talents to love our children."
Since graduating from university, Ms Yan has been engaged in Early Childhood Education. She has been working for 9 years as an ECE teacher. She has received Montessori EMTTA training and worked in an international Montessori kindergarten for 2 years. She then stayed in Indonesia to act as a Chinese teacher for kindergarten students for a year. Later on, she worked as a PYP teacher in an international school for a year. She firmly believes that play-based learning is the best way for children to learn and develop.
Ms Vicky Yu
Ms Vicky Yu graduated from Jiangxi Normal University with a bachelor‘s degree and the qualification of a first-level kindergarten teacher. She has more than ten years’ teaching experience in kindergarten, being awarded as an excellent teacher many times and has experience in leadership roles. During her time in YWIES, she has organized high quality activities and shared her knowledge and understanding with other kindergarten teachers. She has lots of experience in theme inquiry activities and Orff's music education. She continues to study and receive training to improve her professional teaching practice.
On the basis of children's psychology and education, Ms Yu strongly believes that we should respect young children, interact with them effectively through careful observation and provide rich learning experiences.
Ms Maple Lu
Ms Maple Lu graduated from Beijing City College in 2008, with a major in Early Childhood Education. She then studied in Huaqiao University and gained a diploma and a master’s degree in Chinese Literature. In the first 2 years of her career she worked as an Early Childhood Education teacher for children aged 0-6 years old. She also worked in the ECE Department of the Bahua Trilingual International School in Indonesia as a Chinese teacher for 4 years. When she comed back to China, she worked in an international kindergarten for 3 years and learned a lot about the IB curriculum. Later, she was attracted by the philosophy of YWIES and joined this amazing community. She believes learning never ends so she wants to always keep herself learning.
Ms Gaby Tan
Ms Gaby Tan has a cheerful personality, is easy to get along with, and has a strong sense of teamwork. She is very good at handmade arts and crafts, environment decorating, and teaching children’s art lessons.
In 2013, Ms Tan graduated from Guangdong Teacher’s College of Language and Art, and has been working as an international kindergarten teacher for more than 5 years. Meanwhile, she gained a rich experience in educational practices. She was trained in topics like "Learning through Play", "Making the PYP Happen", "Reflective Learning and Teaching Based on Critical Thinking" and "Theory of Knowledge".
Ms Tan's philosophy is to let each kid grow at their own speed. She is willing to spend time on each and every one of them so they get to try, to experience, to fail and to succeed.
Ms Jane Cai
Ms Jane Cai graduated from Guangdong Teachers College of Foreign Language and Arts and majored in Preschool School Education of English in 2010. In 2013, Ms Cai graduated from Huaqiao University with a master’s degree in Chinese Ancient Literature.
Ms Cai has nearly 10 years of internatinoal Early Childhood Education working experience, including teaching Mandarin in Pahoa Trilingual International Kindergarten in Jakarta from 2010 to 2013. She was also awarded the Excellent Teacher and got the Montessori Certificate. From 2015 to 2019, she worked as a kindergarten trainer to improve the teachers’ abilities and the Chief Editor to develop the curriculum based on the early years foundation stage in Oxford International Education Group.
Ms Cai is currently one of the ECE teaches in YWIES Guangzhou .She really enjoys the time with the kids here.
